A Good Work

Village2Village Project children gain more than just school fees, uniforms, 2 meals during weekdays for primary students, room and board and supplies for secondary students, encouragement and guidance from staff workers . . . the children become part of a COMMUNITY.

The staff has been working with the children to elect leaders among themselves who are in charge of various elements of the workings of the site…from the kitchen, to a “timer” who tracks those who are late for events, to social affairs (handling disputes among the children)…They have divided the entire group in to parts with a leader chairing each group. The leaders work together to organize and implement all kinds of tasks.

All of the children are responsible for contributing to the organization by helping in some way. They all work together along side the staff.

In addition one of the staff members has been working with children who are interested in learning about various sewing and needlework projects.

The children have been learning how to make dresses for a young mother with twins in the village out of pillowcases. Next they will be making skirts for themselves.

For boys who are interested in other types of skills, we are hoping to work on additional types of instruction for things like carpentry and mechanics.

All of this is building their sense of community and leadership at the site.

It has been a blessing to witness it all, and so heart warming.

When I needed the kids to be gathered together for an activity, I went to two of the leaders and asked for them to handle all of the orchestration. It’s serving not only to develop their leadership skills, but also is taking some of the pressure off the staff at the site.
